Summer Solstice

Summer is here! Today marks this year’s summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year and the first day of (mid) summer.

Aside from water, the sun is cause for all life on this lovely little planet. It is the center of our solar system and has been worshipped for thousands of years by ancient civilizations.

Egyptians celebrated the summer solstice as their New Year corresponding it with the rise and fall of the Nile. Helios, the Greek god of the sun, is responsible for riding his golden carriage carrying the sun from rise to set. The summer solstice is honored with various deities, feasts, festivals and rituals from all cultures.

The sun represents the divine masculine and will attract its counterpart in the divine feminine. The solstice is representative of new beginnings, counting blessings, and shining light on all that is dark.

Summer solstice has always been one of my favorites. From being engaged two years ago to now being married on this beautiful day, it will always be a magical time when the start of summer arrives each year.
